Mahendra Singh Dhoni has often been branded as a lucky captain, who shines more because of luck than because of his tactics on the field and this has been a major criticism for the boy from Ranchi for the last five years and this was almost proved, to some extent in the final round of matches during the ongoing Indian Premier League. Dhoni and his team, the two time defending champions Chennai Super Kings had ended their allotted 16 matches in the group stages with a defeat and were stranded on 17 points, occupying the final playoff spot by virtue of a better net run rate over the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

If Dhoni and his boys were to stand any chance of making the playoffs, it would mean that the Royal Challengers Bangalore had to lose in their final match against the Kings XI Punjab which was almost unthinkable with the kind of form that they were in. the match didn’t start off well for either the Kings or for Mahendra Singh Dhoni when they were bundled out for 132 and with his team needing just 133 runs to secure the final playoff berth, Chris Gayle began to his sixes for fun.

But soon after, Gayle was out and there was almost a collapse for the Royal Challengers and it seemed that fortune was again smiling on Dhoni when the Kings XI Punjab managed to hold out and beat the Garden City team. It was unprecedented the way the Super Kings managed to reach the playoffs and now that they have, they have the chance of winning the title for the third time in as many seasons if they win the next three matches.

And one often wonders why people call Mahendra Singh Dhoni a lucky captain, but after this, no one will ever doubt his luck.

The Wall of the Indian cricket team Rahul Dravid has admitted that the side faces an uphill battle to save the second Test match against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground after already falling 354 runs behind with just eight wickets remaining in hand and with two more days to play. The star batsman failed to explain why the side has been batting so poorly over the course of the two Tests played with his side already on the verge of receive its sixth straight loss in Tests after being thumped by England for 4-0 in England.

The team was bundled out for only 191 in the first innings of the second Test and Dravid had to witness some batting master class from Australian captain Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey and Ricky Ponting which took them to a total for 659 for 4 wickets, a lead of 468 runs. The second innings also did not go much differently from the first for India and they have already lost opener Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid with Gautam Gambhir and Sachin Tendulkar fighting it out in the middle.

Dravid also felt visibly disappointed with the way he got out in the second innings, being bowled by Ben Hilfenhaus for 29 after completely missing the swing of the ball. According to Dravid, things just haven’t gone right for India during this series but he is still optimistic that there is still time to go, both in the Test and the series and he hopes something can be salvaged from the series, if only pride.

He is hopeful that the players still at the crease can come up with something good and save the Test match for India and if that happens, Rahul Dravid can look forward to a new start with the third Test.
