Rahul Dravid has said that Mahendra Singh Dhoni should quit the captaincy of the Indian T20 team and Chennai Super Kings, but, he insisted that Dhoni shouldn’t be replaced as the test and ODI captain of the Indian team.

Dhoni’s captaincy has recently been criticized by the experts. According to the experts, Dhoni is very defensive as a captain and he didn’t set appropriate field for the bowlers.

When asked about Dhoni’s captaincy, Dravid said, “I don’t think Dhoni should be removed as captain. He is still a very good leader and is capable of captaining the side well. What he needs to do is to change his approach a bit. He needs to be a bit more pro active as a captain. More often than not, he sets defensive fields and hopes that the batsman would make a mistake. This is negative approach. He needs to back his bowlers and set attacking fields.”

“Dhoni should also recognize that he can’t do everything. There is too much of workload on him. He is the captain, wicketkeeper and he bats at a very important position. So, he needs to manage his workload and for the starters, he should quit the captaincy of Indian T20 side and CSK and give a younger player the opportunity to captain.”

“I still believe that Dhoni should continue to lead the test and ODI side. He is not doing a bad job. He just needs a bit of change in his approach.”

“In ODIs, he has always led from the front. He is an absolutely phenomenal ODI batsman and his ODI performances in the recent times have been amazing. The team for the next world Cup should be built around him.”

When asked if he thinks that Gautam Gambhir would be a good choice as test captain, Dravid said, “No, I don’t think so just for the simple reason that he hasn’t been consistent in test cricket since a long time. His own test place has come under scanner. He is already under pressure and the selectors shouldn’t put him under more pressure by giving him the captaincy.”
