The young Indian batsman, Ajinkya Rahane, has said that Rahul Dravid is his cricketing hero and he learnt quite a lot from him while playing for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rahane said that he has been watching Rahul Dravid bat since his childhood and it was a wonderful experience to play alongside him in the IPL. As per Rahane, besides being a great cricketer, Rahul is an open hearted individual as well. He always helps the young cricketers and gives them valuable tips.

Rahane opened for Rajasthan Royals along with Dravid in the IPL this year. Rahane performed brilliantly in the tournament. He played 16 matches for Rajasthan Royals and scored 560 runs at an average of 40. He also scored a century against the Royal Challangers Bangalore. He said that in the previous IPL seasons, He didn’t get a chance to bat up the order, but, this time around Rahul Dravid asked him to open the innings. As per Rahane, he loves to bat up the order especially in the shorter formats of the game.

Rahane had gone to Australia with the Indian test team last year, but, he didn’t get an opportunity to play in a test match there. But, after the retirement of Rahul Dravid, it has been speculated that Rahane might get a chance to bat at no. 3 in the upcoming test series against New Zealand. However, he would have to face a tough competition from Rohit Sharma for that no. 3 spot. On being asked about that, Rahane said that it is up to the selectors to decide who will bat at no. 3. As per Rahane, he wants to play test match cricket for India and if he would get a chance in the upcoming series, he would try to cement his place in the team.
