IPL PLAUDITS

Rahul Dravid has said that playing in the IPL benefits the Indian young players a lot because in that tournament they play with the top international cricketers and learn a lot from them.

Dravid was in Delhi the other day to launch a book written by Unmukt Chand, a young right handed batsman who had led India to the U-19 World Cup title more than a year ago.

When asked if the IPL is beneficial for the Indian youngsters, Dravid said, “Yes, it is. It’s a tournament which gives the young players the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the greats of the game and that does them a world of good.”

When asked about his thoughts on Unmukt Chand, Dravid said, “I had met him first when he was a part of the Indian U-19 side. I had been asked by their coach to have a chat with them and Unmukt had some very good questions to ask.”

“He has made a lot of runs in junior cricket and in IPL also, he has done pretty well. Now, he needs to do that in the first class games.”

Unmukt plays for Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League. In the last edition of the tournament, he had got a lot of playing opportunities because of the absence of Virender Sehwag, but, he couldn’t quite grab those opportunities. He had played 2 or 3 good knocks, but, in most of the games, he had failed and thus, his chances of being retained by the Daredevils for the next 3 seasons are not that good.

However, he has been in fine touch in the domestic circuit of late and if he gets listed in the next IPL auction which probably will take place at the start of next year, a lot of franchises would bid for him.
